Set A Goal Right Now To Quit Failing And Begin Succeeding

Right now set a goal to be the successful person you dream about being. Although you may have failed for more years than you can remember, it’s never too late to fulfill your ancient dream.

With all the literature available on success, it’s easy to become confused about what to do, try out a few of strategies, and then give up. But what if you could use a formula that was so simple that it would be impossible to miss with it. There is, in fact, such a formula, and we will discuss it’s three elements in some detail here. The formula is basically this: (a) Set A Goal; (b) Make A Plan; and (c) Take Massive Action.

Set A Goal

Decide what you love to do more than anything else and make that your goal. Each of us is uniquely gifted and unless we follow our hearts we will always be shipwrecked on the shores of bad luck. A goal that does not fire you has no power. It has to be a goal that speaks to your values, ignites your passion, and liberates your life force.

Joseph Campbell would sit in a hen coop for days on end, month in and month out, reading books on mythology and anthropology. He later became the greatest scholar on mythology the world has ever known.

Similarly, Mohandas Gandhi was bored with law, until he found a way to use his analytical mind, legal training, and spiritual proclivities to free India from the political and economic repression of the British Empire.

Likewise, Martin Luther King was gifted with the power of oratory, and with his gift for persuasion, he changed the American nation and put an end to an unchallenged ideology of blind discrimination, abusive prejudice and ruthless persecution.

What gifts do you have and what fills you with burning desire? Any goal less than a soul-stirring passion will simply not do. Life is too short to compromise your inner values and squander your gifts to life.

Make A Plan

Once you’ve found what stirs your heart, where do you begin?

You begin where you are with what you have now. As Virginia Woolf once said, “Arrange whatever pieces come your way.”

Your simple plans, based on your limited resources, will grow with the alacrity of Jack’s magic beans. As you plan your work and work your plan, it will evolve to expand your paradigm of what is possible and your understanding of how to go about getting more of the results that you truly desire.

Take Massive Action

Although many people walking the road to success, manage to choose the best goals and to fashion out a reasonable plan, they may fail to take massive action. After an initial burst of enthusiasm that lasts for a month, a few obstacles along the way, a few caustic comments by shallow friends, and a few bouts of self-doubt they simply give up. Simple defeats in the pursuit of their ambition are enough to completely extinguish the fire in their belly.

Sloth, more than any other factor, may be the single greatest reason why people fail. In an age of escalating technology, many people have become alienated from their inner life. Subject to the constant seductive messages of entertainment and advertising blasted everywhere from billboards to televisions, many people have lost their innate power to think originally. Today, delayed gratification is considered as some kind of anomaly, a psychological aberration. Yet the converse is true. Those who succumb to the need for instant gratification are bound to live a life of futility. Having a good time, pursuing fun, and choosing to constantly live it up is the creed of a fool. Hedonism only offers temporary satisfaction.

All successful men and women have one thing in common: they outwork everyone else in sight. Goals may light your passion, plans may give you a sense of direction, but it is sheer hard work that will lead you out of the wilderness of your life into the promised land of your good fortune.

Live The Formula

This three step formula is easy enough to understand and apply, but don’t let its simplicity fool you. Act on this formula right now. Seize this moment of inspiration to change your life for the better. Isn’t it time you began to follow your heart and create the life of your dreams? Take a moment to ponder over what you want to do with your life. Begin where you are now with what you have right now to accelerate the course of your destiny.

Grow, expand, and multiply. Grow your dream, expand its reach, and multiply its effects. It’s never to late to be the person you might have been and to do the things that only you can do. Work hard. Rise to the occasion. Leave each day a little richer because you did your best. Seize the moment, clutch the day, and live as you’ve never lived before.
